Abstract
When a gingival recession occurs, the amount of keratinized gingiva around the tooth is decreased, leading to hypersensitivity and esthetic issues, particularly in the anterior tooth region. To address the problems of gingival recession, root coverage with periodontal plastic surgery can be used. Among the different methods, coronally and laterally positioned flaps are the most common, both of which demonstrate a high success rate when employed for root coverage. Without sufficient keratinized gingiva below the recession area or with keratinized gingiva only on the adjacent teeth, a laterally positioned flap should be considered instead of a coronally positioned flap. The aim of the current study was to utilize a laterally positioned flap and a subepithelial connective tissue graft for root coverage to treat isolated recession defects in the mandibular anterior teeth.
